Going Public! Festival

Going Public! was a one-week program within across, with, nearby through which Bergen School of Architecture (BAS) shared and discussed its ways of learning-with in a broader public context. Being both a stimulating and extraordinary setting for a teaching institution, this making public presented a plurality of inviting formats such as performative events, exhibitions, and a round table discussion.
Besides acting as a co-convenor and venue to Bergen Assembly, BAS has introduced eleven new elective courses, collectively titled ‘BAS Trajectories’. These new courses operate across cohorts, bringing together students from all five years creating new opportunities for shared learning and unlearning.
Going Public! served as a platform for the courses to share how they have engaged with different sites, themes, and scales and discuss how this has cultivated various techniques of ‘speaking nearby’ by means of architectural thinking, teaching, and making. In this way a rich, diverse, and highly inclusive program unfolded, held together by the key question: What is the public need for architectural education today?
With the ROMMET as its main vibrant hub of action, Going Public! also involved, related and were located at many different sites in Bergen. Free of charge, the program made the city of Bergen a site for questions concerning the past, present and future of architectural teaching.
