2005: Design zwischen Improvisation und Organisation
Als besonderes Angebot im breit gefächerten Ausbildungsprogramm führt die Zollverein School in diesem Jahr
vom 16. bis 24. Juli die Zollverein Summer School ein. Die Veranstaltungsreihe, die jährlich in den Sommermonaten stattfinden wird, richtet sich exklusiv an (Young-)Professionals aus den Bereichen Management, Kommunikation, Marketing, Architektur, Design und Beratung. Schon die diesjährige Auswahl an international renommierten Referenten belegt den anspruchsvollen Ansatz: “Chicks on Speed” (Alex Murray-Leslie, Melissa Logan und Kiki Moorse), Francesca Ferguson (urban drift projects, Berlin), Dr. Bettina von Stamm (Innovation Leadership Forum, UK), Prof. Dr. Cordula Meier (Universität Duisburg-Essen), Prof. Keiichi Sato (Institute of Design, Illinois Institute of Technology Chicago), Christopher Dell (Institute for improvisation technologies, Berlin) sowie Ed Annink (Ontwerpwerk office for design, Den Haag/angefragt) arbeiten mit den Teilnehmern in ein- oder mehrtägigen Workshops auf dem Gelände des Weltkulturerbes der ehemaligen Zeche Zollverein in Essen.
Hochkarätig besetzt ist das Podium bei der Kick-Off-Veranstaltung am Abend des 15. Juli: Prof. Dr. Ralph Bruder, Präsident der Zollverein School, diskutiert mit Philipp Bree (BREE, Isernhagen), Leo Lübke (COR, Rheda-Wiedenbrück), Philipp Thonet (Gebrüder Thonet, Frankenberg/Eder), Christian Boros (BOROS, Wuppertal) zu Crossing Borders: Internationalisierung als Chance für junge Unternehmer. Die Moderation der Veranstaltung liegt in den Händen von Thomas Edelmann (Journalist mit den Schwerpunkten Design und Architektur, Hamburg).
Christopher Dell wird am 20. Juli unter dem Titel “minimal structures live” sein Können unter Beweis stellen: Das Reclam Jazzlexikon nennt ihn “den führenden Vibrafonisten Europas”.
Das Special-Event der Zollverein Summer School 2005 am 22. Juli verspricht ein Highlight der besonderen Art zu werden: “Chicks on Speed” bestreiten ein Konzert mit Happening-Charakter auf der Zeche Zollverein.
Für die MBA-Studierenden der Zollverein School werden spezielle, interne Workshops veranstaltet, wie beispielsweise ein Kurs mit Prof. Keiichi Sato (Institute of Design, Illinois Institute of Technology Chicago) zum Thema “Design Methodology”.
Ein besonderes Augenmerk gilt in diesem Jahr dem PhD-Programm. Am 19. Juli vermitteln Prof. Dr. Ralph Bruder und Prof. Dr. Cordula Meier den PhD-Kandidaten wichtige Ansätze und Anforderungen an Forschungsprojekte im Design und stehen für Fragen rund um das Thema zur Verfügung. Am 20. Juli schließt sich für die PhD-Interessierten ein zweitägiger Workshop “Design Methodology” mit Prof. Keiichi Sato (Institute of Design, Illinois Institute of Technology Chicago) an.
Für Interessierte, die intensiven Einblick in den MBA-Studiengang der Zollverein School erhalten möchten, wird ein Lecture Day angeboten. Dozenten der Zollverein School geben einen Einblick in ihre Veranstaltungen und stehen für Fragen zum MBA-Studium zur Verfügung.
Zollverein School – zwischen Praxis und Wissenschaft
Mit dem Anspruch, die Bereiche Management und Design praxisorientiert zu verknüpfen und wissenschaftlich fundiert weiter zu entwickeln, hat die Zollverein School of Management and Design sich als in Europa einmalige Einrichtung etabliert. Angeboten werden postgraduale Master-Studiengänge in Voll- und Teilzeit. Betriebs- und marktwirtschaftliche Zusammenhänge sowie gestalterische Kompetenzen werden analysiert, bewertet und wechselseitig vermittelt. Der 18-monatige Kern-Studiengang zielt auf den Abschluss „Master of Business and Administration“ (MBA), der den Absolventen in Kooperation mit staatlich anerkannten Hochschulen verliehen wird.

2005: Between improvisation and organisation
As a special feature within its broad training programme, Zollverein School is introducing the Zollverein Summer School this year from July 16 through 24. This series of events, which will be held every year during the summer months, is exclusively directed at (young) professionals from the areas of management, communications, marketing, architecture, design and consulting. Even this year’s selection of internationally-renowned lecturers shows the outstanding quality of the workshops: “Chicks on Speed” (Alex Murray-Leslie, Melissa Logan and Kiki Moorse), Francesca Ferguson (urban drift projects, Berlin), Dr. Bettina von Stamm (Innovation Leadership Forum, UK), Prof. Dr. Cordula Meier (University of Duisburg-Essen), Prof. Keiichi Sato (Institute of Design, Illinois Institute of Technology Chicago), Christopher Dell (Institute for improvisation technologies, Berlin) as well as Ed Annink (Ontwerpwerk office for design, Den Haag/requested) will join forces with the participants in workshops of one, or more, days in the grounds of the World Heritage site of the former Zeche Zollverein mine in Essen.
The kick-off event on the evening of July 15 also has a first-class cast: Prof. Dr. Ralph Bruder, President of the Zollverein School, will be discussing the topic of Crossing Borders: Globalisation as an opportunity for young entrepreneurswith Philipp Bree (BREE, Isernhagen), Leo Lübke (COR, Rheda-Wiedenbrück), Philipp Thonet (Gebrüder Thonet, Frankenberg/Eder), Christian Boros (BOROS, Wuppertal) The event will be hosted by Thomas Edelmann (journalist focussing on design and architecture, Hamburg).
On July 20, Christopher Dell will be showing his skills in a performance entitled “minimal structures live”: the Reclam Jazz lexicon names him “Europe’s leading vibraphonist”.
The special event of the Zollverein Summer School 2005 on July 22 promises to be a superlative highlight: “Chicks on Speed” will be giving a happening-like concert at Zeche Zollverein.
Special, internal workshops will be organised for the Zollverein School’s MBA students, such as a course with Prof. Keiichi Sato (Institute of Design, Illinois Institute of Technology Chicago) on the topic of “Design Methodology”.
There will be a special focus on the PhD-Programm this year. On July 19, Prof. Dr. Ralph Bruder and Prof. Dr. Cordula Meier will be lecturing the PhD students on important information and requirements relating to research projects in design and will be available for questions revolving around this topic. On July 20, this will be followed by a two-day workshop for PhD students on “Design Methodology” with Prof. Keiichi Sato (Institute of Design, Illinois Institute of Technology Chicago).
For all those interested in acquiring intensive insight into the Zollverein School MBA course, there will also be a Lecture Day. Zollverein School lecturers will provide information relating to their events and will be available for questions regarding the MBA course.
Zollverein School – between practice and science
With its focus on linking the areas of management and design in a practice-oriented manner and to further develop them on a scientific basis, the Zollverein School of Management and Design is a unique teaching facility in Europe. The school’s programme includes full- and part-time postgraduate master degree courses. The courses focus on the analysis, evaluation and interaction of business administrative and market economic correlations as well as design competences. The 18-month core course concludes with a “Master of Business and Administration” (MBA) degree, which is awarded to the students in cooperation with state-recognised universities and colleges.
